Skin Technology - Here's the Science Bit!
Welcome
to ‘Skin Deep’ – This month’s feature looks at our ‘Technology for Skin’.
Any
questions, just ask Dr. Angie
Winnington-Sharp – www.cheshireskinclinic.com angie@cheshireskinclinic.com
or 01925 263660 & 07967 481594. Next month – ‘Men’s Skin Care’.
Some of the primary
elements that drive skin ageing and skin disease are damaging chronic
inflammation and an unhealthy skin barrier. Exfoliation and regular
dermabrasion can actually exacerbate these conditions by perpetuating the
damage to the surface of the skin and not allowing healthy skin cells to
thrive.
A great way of repairing
damaged skin is using Keratolytic Technology. This involves selecting the skin
(Kerato’) that is need of assistance and then removing excess and abnormal skin
cells (Lytic’). This in turn increases cell turnover by destroying the
unhealthy constituents, cleans out blocked pores and rids the skin of unhealthy
bacteria without adversely damaging the desirable, protective barrier that our
skin provides.
The most common key targets
are to reduce redness, smooth the skin texture/reduce fine lines and wrinkles. This
ultimately results in us maintaining clean pores and fresh, healthy skin. By embracing this technology it is possible
to successfully treat acne, congested/under-nourished skin, rosacea, psoriasis,
dermatitis and general uneven skin texture. The ‘skin repair technology’ products
themselves can be used with or without complementary skin rejuvenation
techniques, depending on the severity of the repair and restoration required.
Many of these products can also be used at home, at a lower strength, to
maintain the whole ‘revamp’ on a long term basis and prevent further
detrimental conditions arising.
