Most non-surgical clinic treatments tend to be focussed on the face. However, there are a growing number of excellent treatments for the body that can help to lift, tone and sculpt areas of concern. Commonly these are the neck, abdomen, buttocks, thighs and upper arms. Radio-Frequency is a great way of giving a more defined appearance and can really improve self-esteem, plus give a much needed boost in the run up to any planned holiday and the associated ‘beach attire’.
Radio-Frequency (RF) (unlike some light based treatments) is perfectly safe to have with a tan and is pain free. With a variety of different settings, RF can be used to assist with muscular injuries, reduction of stretch marks & cellulite and also to maximise muscle tone and definition. This in turn can provide an ideal ‘kick start’ with other lifestyle changes such as a healthier diet and exercise etc. As part of a tailor-made plan RF can really help to transform your self-perception, boost confidence and make you look like your ‘best ever self’.

Finally, we have a little sunshine in our lives, hurray. The Daffodils are out and looking gorgeous, which is a perfect reason for giving your skin a good Spring Clean. Products that are especially formulated to maximise radiance and lift and tone the skin needn’t be expensive if you know where to look. Most Skin Clinics will have done all the hard work for you, so take advantage of their selection process and find out what they recommend specifically for your skin. It may be a firming serum to get rid of any dull skin or puffiness around the eyes. It could be a retinol product for any problem areas that need a little specialist attention. It may even be an intensive moisturiser to give a youthful, fresh look. Don’t be tempted to go to the high-street and max’ out your credit card on the ‘super expensive celebrity endorsed’ products that are crammed full of perfumes and preservatives, they may feel nice to the touch, but if they don’t make you look a million dollars, why spend that amount on them!

Essential Specialist Acne Clinic - ***Submit Your Questions Now***

Skin Deep – March 2015

Acne breakouts and excessive oil or ‘shine’ can be partially due to overactive sebum glands. Harsh products, sometimes aimed at ‘targeting acne’ can actually make the skin worse by causing inflammation in the skin which then induces more oil production. This causes larger pores, redness and visible ‘shine’. The best tips to avoid these things are to avoid strong exfoliating products as these will inflame the surface of the skin and change the structure of the uppermost layers. Many people assume that by trying to ‘dry out’ the skin, the oil production will reduce, but you can actually exacerbate the situation by reducing the skin’s ability to heal itself, which frequently results in greater oil production, not less. The most accurately formulated products can be purchased from a specialist skin clinic and they are often much less expensive than the ‘advertised brands’ featured in your local shops. 'How to Combat Dry Skin' - Belated February Blog xxx

Hi all, sorry this one is late, I've been off on my travels around the world, so this month you will get 2 blogs...happy reading. As always, any questions please let me know angie@cheshireskinclinic.com

Many of us suffer with dry skin, especially at this time of the year – central heating combined with fast transition into the cooler air outside doesn’t help. But the best way to combat it is more than just moisturising. Healthy skin consists of ceramide, cholesterol and fatty acids, when the balance is disrupted by temperature, damaging product ingredients, dehydration, inflammation and redness, lack of elasticity, increased sensitivity and general ageing, the results can lead to dry and unhealthy skin. In fact using a badly formulated product, or one that just isn’t suitable for your own individual skin type (no matter how expensive the product may be and what promises it makes) can be worse than applying nothing at all. Medically influenced cosmeceuticals (cosmetic pharmaceutical products) provide the best in skin nourishment and are great for treating the presumed oxymoron of having dry skin alongside break-outs, both of which are pre-determined by microscopic inflammation/blocked pores and not the (often presumed for acne) excess oils. You may find that changing the amount of product that you use/require varies with the seasons, but the product itself should be the same.

Even ‘normal skin’ benefits for a routine, but think of this in terms of applications during a 24-48 hour period, rather than being a strict ‘morning/night’ regime, your skin will forgive you the occasional late night! The traditional T-zone and around the mouth area tend to be he places that need the most attention, especially for women, as the number of pores vary here, for men it will tend to be around the nose and beard line. Remember your delicate eye area and upper neck too, often neglected and can undo all of your otherwise diligent skin care.

If you need one word as a New Year Resolution for your skin make it REPAIR. There are many products out there that actually damage the skin barrier with ineffective additives. The skin is our largest organ and as it is external, it needs a little help every now and again to function at its peak. Remember that your skin is the 1st line of defence for your body’s immune system. If healthy, it can prevent inflammation which in turn can lead to premature ageing, uneven texture, skin tone and changes in pigmentation. Firm, smooth and healthy…these are 3 words that can be simply stunning when they apply to your skin. They also indicate good diet, fitness, lack of stress and lack of physiological imbalance.

Many ‘high-street’ products are over-loaded with essences to make products smell and feel nice, but the real crux is to repair the external barrier and strengthen the collagen and elastin producing properties. As we age these substances are produced less and our skin subsequently thins and sags, unfortunately this is more pronounced in women. The products that you select should not be ridiculously expensive as the most effective ingredients are not over-manufactured, keep that in mind when consulting your skin specialist and get something that will make your skin truly beautiful x.
