It only takes a few days of sunshine to make us smile and feel more positive. Maybe this year we will get a lovely summer and a few more glorious bank holiday weekends where we get to wear our sunglasses and flip-flops.
We know that Vitamin D is good for us, but we also know that exposure to UV light isn’t, hence wearing a good SPF is essential to protect our skin from damage and premature ageing. One thing that can have a more noticeable ageing affect than fine lines and wrinkles is excess pigment in our skin. As I am someone who develops more and more freckles each year, despite wearing a daily SPF, I am careful in the sun as there is a difference in appearance between small freckles that develop quickly in bright sunlight and the gradual onset of age spots that tend to be larger and don’t retreat when the weather cools down. They can make a person look a little older if on the more visible areas of the body, such as the face, chest and hands. A good way of reducing them and then keeping them at bay is to treat them with visible light that has the UV filtered out of it. This is a non-invasive way of removing excess pigment, without damaging your underlying natural skin tone, and it takes just a few minutes. The best time to treat darker pigment is just before or after the main summer months and any planned holidays. So then next time we get a dip in the temperature, why not take advantage of the cooler conditions and perfect your skin before the holiday season really starts.
