Next month – ‘Essential Skin Nutrition’.

During cooler seasons where the weather conditions fluctuate frequently and our skin is subjected to harsh external factors and warmer internal conditions (central heating etc) it can become dry, cracked, red and irritated very quickly. To maximise the effectiveness of any non-surgical procedure it is important to have good pre-care (before the chosen treatment) such as a preparatory cream, as well as after-care in order to keep the skin looking healthy.
By caring for the skin before any procedures such as wrinkle reduction and non-surgical face lifts, it will in turn respond faster and last longer after the treatment. In essence, the skin will only look as good as the new skin coming through beneath the unwanted visible imperfections that are being targeted. In order to achieve great skin it is necessary to protect the natural barrier that it provides whilst reducing inflammation and the build up of dead skin cells at the surface, which can lead to a dull appearance. The end goal is to increase cell turnover, stimulate collagen and elastin production and promote natural rejuvenation.

There is some new research to show that results from laser, IPL, radio-frequency and other procedures can be optimised by using best practice from standard wound care. This helps to prevent excess pigmentation, scarring, folliculitis, itching and general redness/irritation. By following these healthcare guidelines the skin is repaired and restored more efficiently, whilst simultaneously allowing the natural gas and moisture transmission to produce healthy skin cells and providing some additional occlusion to protect newly treated skin. When having any treatments around the eye area remember to ask your practitioner for something that is formulated specifically for this area as the skin is more sensitive here and requires more delicate after-care. Winter needn’t be your skin’s enemy. With a little extra care using formulated home-use products it can be your skin’s ‘most wonderful time of the year’.
