Chemical Peels come in a vast range of formulations and strengths so choosing the correct one is something that is important to discuss with your skin specialist. The blend selected will be dependent on the condition that you are having treated, ranging from anti-aging, acne, scarring, rosacea, deep wrinkles etc. It is also imperative to simultaneously look at the disruption to the skin barrier that is desired to permit any desired inflammation whilst preventing any excess damage or unwanted deeper peeling. The overall effect should be to renew, fortify and repair, thus culminating in a healthy, rejuvenated effect. Important goals are to increase cell turnover, balance pH, and keep healthy oils within the skin.

Good bullet points to remember before your consultation are: acknowledge your own skin type, do not opt for a peel because a ‘celebrity’ has had one. Do not use in conjunction with a physical exfoliator as this can overly dry the skin and damage the new, fresh skin cells. Try a peel with no/minimal preservatives, fragrances or synthetic chemicals.
