Well the sun is certainly
making a bit of an appearance at the moment, much to most people’s delight.
Sometimes, however, it’s easy to forget about looking after our skin in the sun
when we’re not on holiday. It is vitally important to wear a daily Sun
Protection Factor (SPF) to avoid premature ageing, redness, pigmentation and of
course minimise the risk of skin cancer.
The SPF doesn’t have to be high, for most people 15-25 is adequate, as
long as it is reapplied on a regular basis. There are also a range of hydrating
products that can be used to ensure that our skin remains supple and
fresh. I recommend a specific range of
products in the clinic including a rejuvenating lotion, moisturising protector,
SPF and a medically formulated serum to maximise skin care and ward off any
damage from the heat and light. At the
same time improving the appearance, hydrating and protecting your skin. Skin
care isn’t all about reactive repair, proactive protection is the key!

Skin Deep - How to combat unwanted pigmentation
South Warrington News

It only takes a few days of
sunshine to make us smile and feel more positive. Maybe this year we will get a
lovely summer and a few more glorious bank holiday weekends where we get to
wear our sunglasses and flip-flops.
We know that Vitamin D is
good for us, but we also know that exposure to UV light isn’t, hence wearing a
good SPF is essential to protect our skin from damage and premature ageing. One
thing that can have a more noticeable ageing affect than fine lines and
wrinkles is excess pigment in our skin. As I am someone who develops more and more
freckles each year, despite wearing a
daily SPF, I am careful in the sun as there is a difference in appearance
between small freckles that develop quickly in bright sunlight and the gradual
onset of age spots that tend to be larger and don’t retreat when the weather
cools down. They can make a person look
a little older if on the more visible areas of the body, such as the face,
chest and hands. A good way of reducing them and then keeping them at bay is to
treat them with visible light that has the UV filtered out of it. This is a non-invasive way of removing excess
pigment, without damaging your underlying natural skin tone, and it takes just
a few minutes. The best time to treat darker pigment is just before or after
the main summer months and any planned holidays. So then next time we get a dip
in the temperature, why not take advantage of the cooler conditions and perfect
your skin before the holiday season really starts.

Non-Surgical Face Lifts
South Warrington News
Welcome
to ‘Skin Deep’ – This month’s feature looks at our ‘Non-Surgical Face Lifts’.
Any
questions, just ask Dr. Angie
Winnington-Sharp – www.cheshireskinclinic.com angie@cheshireskinclinic.com
or 01925 263660 & 07967 481594. Next month – ‘Pigmentation’.
As we are bombarded with
more and more adverts and programs insisting that we should all aspire to have
the perfect face and body; get rid of embarrassing features and generally ‘seek
perfection’, it can become all too easy to opt for drastic, risky surgery and
then spend months, if not years, wishing that we hadn’t rushed into it. Surgical procedures clearly come with an
element of risk, as any use of anaesthetics and/or surgical intervention can
induce a negative response from our bodies.
This is why more people than ever are deciding to ‘ease themselves’ into
appearance altering treatments by starting off with something non-surgical and
thus minimising the risk and the financial costs. Non-surgical face lifts are
the ideal way to see an improvement in our appearance without any incision or
invasion to the skin’s natural barrier, whilst still lifting, toning and
tightening an area and thus altering our outward appearance. Radio-frequency
and pulsed light/laser techniques can be easily combined to give exceptional
results, which, in time will revert back to our starting point if not
‘topped-up’. Therefore, these treatments can be used as a stepping stone to
surgery, if this is what someone’s ultimate goal is, or as a complete
alternative on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis, hence negating the need
for surgery completely. We are all familiar with the saying, “don’t run before
you can walk”. In this instance, why have surgery unless it is absolutely
necessary, especially when you can get such fantastic results without the risk.
